一般供神明皆用三杯茶除了五方五士龙神用五杯．在道教科仪上有敬奉三清之意也是敬天地人的意思。

In Daoist rituals, offering three cups of tea is a sign of respect for the Three Pure Ones and for heaven, earth, and humanity. When sacrificing to the gods, however, offering five cups of wine is required, as five cups of wine are offered to the general, representing the five directions of the compass and the Five Sacred Mountains. Normally, three cups of tea and five cups of wine are offered to the gods.
