Taoism does not have a specific founder. It originated from the ancient Chinese Taoist thought, the origin of which can be traced back to the pre-Qin period (771 BC to 221 BC, when the Qin Dynasty was established). Later in the Han Dynasty, Taoist thought infiltrated and merged with other religious philosophies, forming a relatively complete Taoist system. Although there is no specific founder, many famous Taoist thinkers and Taoists have made important contributions to the development of Taoism.
