并不是不能。道士有分全真派：
1）火居道士，可以吃荤可以生孩子。
2）出家道士多数在庙里念经，留发都是不结婚的。他们需要还俗才能“回去”当火居道士。
但道长也与和尚类似，通常被要求保持清修的生活方式，包括禁欲和不结婚，不生子女。这是因为在道教和佛教中，修行的道路被认为需要专注于心灵的世界，而无需被地上的世俗事物所干扰。此外，对于这些修行者，教义中通常包含了一些严苛的道德规范，以保持纯洁和崇高的状态，以便更好地贡献于人民和社会。但是，在某些派别中，比如养生道、全真道等，其修行方式灵活多样，不要求禁欲。
